According to the Israeli law, every Israeli citizen must update any change in marital status even if the change occured outside of Israel.
Please note: A Rabbinical certificate (ketubah) issued outside of Israel is not an acceptable means of updating your marital status.
Updating your marriage at the Consulate
To change your marital status you must bring with you to the consulate valid Israeli ID. If you were married before January 1, 1989 the original marriage certificate must be presented.
If you were married after January 1, 1989 the original certificate must be authenticated by an Apostille seal . The Apostille seal can be issued by the Department of State in which you were married.
The state that issued the marriage certificate is the only state that can authenticate the document with an Apostille seal.

Updating your marriage by mail
You must send the following:
- The original marriage certificate with the Apostille seal.
