Description
We are happy to announce Dror's participation in the upcoming Guggenheim exhibit, Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum. The benefit exhibition serves as a finale to the 50th anniversary year. Organized by Nancy Spector, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, and David van der Leer, Assistant Curator for Architecture and Design, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the exhibition will feature renderings of visionary projects in a salon-style installation.
"As Frank Lloyd Wright never saw the Guggenheim completed, Dror decided to make a contribution to the red marking phase of the architectural process. He contemplated the difference between a first-hand experience of the space and one through a photograph or drawing. One of the hardest things to capture in an image is the continuous spiraling floor. Unless it includes the beginning or end of the spiral, it is not possible to know if the camera is tilted, or the floor. By creating a continuous wall that spans 410 degrees in the middle of the spiraling floor, Dror conveys the uniquely unbroken feeling of the space by showing an additional beginning and end.
The wall represented in the watercolor is made of Dror's latest squared square system. The squares are designed in such a way that only when they're placed on the floor in the open position, they form a rhombus. The beginning and end edges of the wall then create a true vertical (they're "plumb") while it climbs up parallel to the slope of the floor."
