About the Consulate
The Consulate General of Israel in New York represents the State of Israel in New York, Connecticut, and Northern New Jersey.
Israel stands as one of the world’s most competitive economies. The country’s market economy is resilient, globally-oriented, and innovative. Israel is famous for its advancements in high technology, particularly in information technology, telecommunications, electronics, and life sciences.
How Does Israel Shape Up?
- Israel has the highest density of start-ups in the world (one start-up for every 1,844 Israelis with a total of 3,850)
- Israel is second only to the United States in the number of companies listed on the NASDAQ. It has more companies listed than all of the European countries combined.
- Israel is one of the few economies that is growing even in the midst of a global recession. Israel’s GDP in Q4 2009 grew at 4.4%.
In 2008, more per capita venture capital investments flowed into Israel than into the major economic global powers. “Investments in Israel were 2.5 times greater than in the United States, 30 times greater than in Europe, 80 times greater than in China, and 350 times greater than in India.” Source: Start-Up Nation, Dan Senor & Saul Singer
